Materials Needed:
– 2×6 boards (for armrests, legs, and support pieces)
– 1×4 boards (for the back slats, seat slats)
– 2×2 boards (for the supports under the seat)
– Screws or outdoor-rated nails
– Wood glue
– Sandpaper
– Outdoor wood finish (optional)

– Saw (circular or jigsaw)
– Drill
– Measuring tape
– Clamps
– Screwdriver
– Sanding block or sander

Step-by-Step Instructions:
Step 1: Cut the Wood
Cut your wood pieces according to the following measurements:
– Legs: 2×6 boards (2 pieces, 20 inches long)
– Seat supports: 2×2 boards (2 pieces, 21 inches long)
– Armrests: 2×6 boards (2 pieces, 30 inches long)
– Backrest support: 2×6 board (1 piece, 19 inches long)
– Seat slats: 1×4 boards (5 pieces, 22 inches long)
– Back slats: 1×4 boards (5-6 pieces, 36 inches long)
Step 2: Build the Frame
– Attach the two 20-inch legs to the 21-inch seat supports. Position the legs at a slight angle (about 15 degrees) for a relaxed seating posture.
– Secure with screws and wood glue for extra strength.
Step 3: Attach the Seat Slats
– Lay the seat slats (the 1x4s) on top of the frame, spacing them evenly. Screw them into place. Leave about ¼ inch gap between each slat for water drainage if the chair is used outdoors.
Step 4: Attach the Backrest
– Secure the back slats to the back support board. Arrange the slats in a slight curve or straight, depending on your comfort preference. Use a spacer to keep even gaps between slats.
– Attach the assembled back to the seat frame at the desired angle (around 20-25 degrees).
Step 5: Add the Armrests
– Secure the armrests (2×6 boards) on top of the legs and attach them to the backrest frame for extra support.
Step 6: Sand and Finish
– Sand all surfaces thoroughly to remove rough edges and splinters.
– Apply a weatherproof wood finish if the chair will be used outdoors.
Step 7: Assemble and Enjoy
– Once everything is assembled and dry, you can place the chair outside and enjoy your new Adirondack chair!
